Ilang tulog na lang, may PBA na naman!

The country's premiere hoops league will reopen its doors for its 39th season on Sunday, November 17. First up in the tri-conference schedule is the most prestigious of 'em all, the Philippine Cup. Previously known as the All-Filipino Conference, this tourney promises pure local bakbakan on the hard court. There'll be no towering, super athletic imports teams can dump the ball to, just skillful local ballers and the Pinoy brand of hard-nosed, never-say-die basketball!

Obviously, we're all pumped up for the new season, largely in part to the new pool of talent that arrived, thanks to the 2013 PBA Draft. With Greg Slaughter, Ian Sanggalang, and Terrence "Mr. Spiky Hairdo" Romeo, among others, hoopin' it up with the big league's beteranos, we predict a conference overflowing with intense action. And of course, you've also got other youngins like The Kraken, Junemar Fajardo, and the ever-energetic Calvin Abueva further spicing up this hoops jambalaya.

With the bounty of new rookies and the intriguing trades that happened in the off-season, another thing is imminent: the emergence of new player tandems.

Who will follow in the footsteps of the PBA's most popular two-punch combos, like San Mig Coffee's "Scoring Apostles" James Yap and Peter June Simon? Who will be the next "Fast and Furious," ala Ginebra's Mark Caguioa and JJ Helterbrand? Check out who we think are the league's new dynamic duos* below!

1) GlobalPort Batang Pier: Terrence Romeo
and Nico Salva

Globalport selecting both Salva and Romeo was one of Draft Day's many surprises. No one expected them to end up in the same team, owing to their Twitter spat a few months ago. But of course, it's all water under the bridge now. Bros na raw sila! With their innate hoops skills (Salva's versatile-for-a-forward's play and Romeo's super scorer/bakaw abilities), their "history" will surely make things a tad more interesting, at the very least.

2) Barako Bull Energy Cola: Dorian Peña and Rico Maierhofer

Draft Day also saw Ginebra trading Rico Maierhofer (and Willy Wilson) to Barako Bull for its fourth pick in the first round pick (which turned out to be James Forrester). As a result, the Energy Boosters gained height and (some) youth for their frontline. Never mind the heft (Rico Mambo's as skinny as they come), veteran Dorian Peña can take care of the banging inside.

This new frontcourt pairing should be pretty interesting to watch. We imagine Maierhofer sliding to the four spot and getting a ton of offensive rebounds and put-backs with help from Peña's gulang moves. If things pan out well, Barako Bull could have one of the league's most formidable (and most horizontally-diverse) inside duos.
