The bout was generally good and what fans wanted to see—a bloody slugfest—with Pacquiao scoring a spectacular beatdown of his younger opponent particularly in the ninth round. But the legendary boxer’s failure to finish his foe cost him dearly as the judges turned to the scorecards after to award a unanimous decision for Horn, who took the aging Pacquiao’s WBO title.
At first, Pacquiao, who presumably learned some statesmanship skills in his first year as a senator, was gracious at admitting defeat.
But it wasn’t long after returning home that it seemed that the Pacman changed his tune about his feelings regarding the outcome of the fight, which turned out to be his illustrious career’s unexpected seventh loss.
Most boxing fans, including commentators like ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith were outraged by the judges’ decision. On the other hand, not everyone ruled out Horn’s winning chances. Seasoned American boxer Timothy Bradley, Jr., who faced Pacquiao thrice inside the ring, said it was a close fight between the two boxers.
Everyone’s got an opinion on the match stats, but at the end of the day, what’s done is done. No amount of yapping can change the results, but you could get a few kicks out of these hilarious social media reactions. Check them out:
