First of all: Aaawww, Yeeeaaah!!!
The first ever Ultimate Fighting Championship event in Manila finally has a main event, and it's so much better than what we had anticipated. UFC.com reports that MMA A-listers Urijah Faber (37-7-0) and Frankie Edgar (17-4-1) will headline UFC Fight Night Manila on May 16!
The event, which is set to take place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, will feature a featherweight bout between Edgar, who is currently enjoying a three-fight win streak, and Faber, who himself has won six of his last seven fights. Thank you, UFC, for the gift that is this super fight!
“I feel like it’s rare in this sport to have the ability, the opportunity, and the fortune of having super fights at multiple weights," Faber, a former WEC featherweight champion, points out. "I love the challenge and I love to perform. Fighting a guy like Frankie is exactly the reason I got into this sport. I’m a fan of the heart Frankie has as a fighter, something I’m known for as well. We're both former champs, so it’s cool for me to be able to make this fight, one for the history books.”
"Here we go!" Edgar, a former UFC lightweight champion, wrote on his Instagram account earlier today. "You've all been asking for this for a long time. 'The Most Shady' versus 'The California Kid.' #Eastcoast #Westcoast #BigPac #icanhearsweattricklingdownyourcheek"
Aside from Faber and Edgar, UFC Fight Night Manila will also feature fights between Roldan Sangcha-an and Jon delos Reyes, Zhang Lipeng and Kajan Johnson, Tae Hyun Bang and Jon Tuck, Li Jingliang and Roger Zapata, and Yao Zikhui and Nolan Ticman, among others. Tickets will go on sale this March at www.smtickets.com.
Once more, with feeling: Aaawww, Yeeeaaah!!!
