Gigabyte might be known more for making motherboards but that doesn't mean the company isn't keen on making noise in the local notebook market. As if saying "meron din kami nyan!" the Taiwanese giant has just launched two new notebooks here in the Philippines and they're both packed with features. Introducing the U2442 ultrabook and the P2542G notebook, a pair that has that hardware punch we're willing to take to satisfy our gadget lust.

Gigabyte U2442

First off, we have the U2442, an ultrabook that Gigabyte says doesn't compromise functionality for a slimmer size. Yes, it's still thin and light, but it's still way chunkier than its anorexic counterparts from other brands. But don't let that scare you away, for the few extra millimeters and grams paved the way for a full suite of ports such as HDMI, USB 3.0, and even VGA. Nice!

The extra poundage also enabled the U2442 to carry a 3rd-generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, a hybrid storage of 128GB SSD (for faster performance) and one freakin' terabyte of capacity! Taking care of the eye-candy department is a 14-inch LCD display. And if you're looking for some gaming, the U2442 also boasts Nvidia GeForce 640M graphics, which means it can play most mainstream games decently.

The U2442 will go up against the likes of the popular ASUS Zenbook Prime and the Toshiba Portege Z930. We say it has a fighting chance, especially with its relatively cheaper SRP of P55,590.
