Well, how about that? It looks like the newest iPhones will be arriving in the Philippines sooner than we expected!
We just got word from telcos Smart and Globe (so you know this is legit) that they'll be offering both the iPhone 5S and 5C starting November 15! This is about a month earlier compared to the iPhone 5, which arrived on local shores in December last year.
But before you think of buying one, here's a bit of a refresher first. This is actually the first time Apple unleashed two different kinds of iPhones. The iPhone 5S is seen as the true flagship, boasting upgraded hardware over its predecessor, the iPhone 5. It packs a faster A7 processor, dual-LED flash, and a new feature called Touch ID which lets you use your fingerprint to unlock the device.
On a related note, you can click here to see how the iPhone 5S stacks up against Android superphones.
On the other hand, the iPhone 5C is practically the iPhone 5 in a plastic shell. It offers pretty much the same hardware (e.g. 1.3GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM) in a more colorful package. You can choose to get in in blue, red, green, and even yellow. So maybe it would be a hit in, say, the UAAP.
Both Globe and Smart have also put up pre-registration portals where you can express your interest in Apple's latest and greatest smartphones. However, signing up won't guarantee you'll get the first local serving of the devices, although there's really no harm in trying.
There's still no word about the local SRPs, but we promise to keep our eyes and ears on the lookout for that one. Hey, at least one-half of the big question, "Magkano at kailan?", is already solved!
