It's that time of the year again, geeks! We look back at all the awesome tech toys that were unveiled, tested, and lusted after in 2014—and holy moly, there were A LOT! Can't blame you for spending as much time (if not more) fantasizing over countless electronic goodies as you did with our incredible women!

And because this year saw a super-deluge of new products, we're doing another round of the FHM Gadget Awards! Like last year, the items on this list made it for several reasons: They're either the best in the market right now, so ubiquitous that you must have them, did something fresh and unique, have something that no other product has, or simply made us surrender our wallets without complaint.

Without further ado, here are the gizmos that got our attention this year (and got us much more eggzoited for 2015!).

THE “PC THAT MADE US ALMOST FORGET ABOUT THE PS4” AWARD

Winner: MSI Night Blade

fhm gadget awards 2014

Why it's on the list: It gave us a raging gamer hard-on!

To expound: It's a kick-ass gaming rig with an awesomely name! The Night Blade looks real good, armed with impressive hardware that can be swapped for even bigger guns in the long run, lets you play whatever game you want, and doesn't give you compatibility headaches (unlike the PS4). We sure like the idea of spending the rest of our holiday break working through our gaming backlog with this beast of a PC!

Yours for: Starts at P19,999 for a "bare-bones" setup, available via MSI retailers around the metro

THE “DOUBLE DUTY” AWARD

Winner: Otterbox Resurgence

Video via Otterbox

Why it's on the list: We've always been Otterbox fans because of its sturdy and innovative cases. But the Resurgence wins it this year because it addresses two most pressing issues of every smartphone user: device protection and battery life! With this phone case, you ward off the bumps and scratches and get 2,000mAh of additional juice. Wall-hugger no more!

One thing we wanna ask, though: What, no Android variant? You listening, Otterbox?

Yours for: P4,300, available via Otterbox retailers around the metro. Click here for more info.

THE “LET'S PLAY!” AWARD

Winner: Oculus Rift DK2

Video via Oculus VR

Why it's on the list: Let's get right to it: The Oculus Rift has made virtual reality cool again (not that it dived into super-uncool status, but you get our drift)! Simple as that. Oh, and we're thinking of using this VR headset for other, non-gaming things, too. Such potentialversatility!

Yours for: You can order the Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 online for $350 (around P15,600; doesn't include shipping fee).

THE “ULTRA HYPE” AWARD

Winners: Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Video via Apple

Why they're on the list: Well, every new iPhone gets maximum hype come launch time and beyond, so we guess Apple will get this special award every year. At the risk of pissing off the hardcore Apple fans, we dare say we associate two specific things with these new mobile devices: Bendgate and the irony of Apple putting out a plus-sized smartphone long after the late Steve Jobs said no one will buy big phones. They're still super fine superphones though. #Bawi

Yours for: The iPhone 6 starts at P35,990 while its bigger bro goes for a minimum of P41,990 with no contract. Both Smart and Globe also offer the new iPhones in prepaid and postpaid plans.

THE “ACTION STAR” AWARD

Winner: GoPro Hero4 Black

Video via GoProTutorials

Why it's on the list: In the world of action cameras, GoPro still lords it over the competition, especially for name recall and “cool kid” factor. Its latest flagship product, the Hero4 Black, doesn't look different from its predecessor (except for the exterior label, anyway). But, among other things, you can expect improved video footage (4K videos, yo!) and stills, as well as sharing via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Yours for: P25,990 via GoPro Philippines and official distributor Moduvi

THE "SAYANG NAMAN KUNG PANG-SELFIE LANG" AWARD

Winner: Sony RX100 Mark III

Why it's on the list: Sony's latest compact shooter looks average, but churns out amazing wide and highly detailed images and videos. 1080p Full-HD shootin' is in the mix, too! That 3-inch LCD display can also be flipped to different viewing angles―although, we beg you, don't get this just to scratch your #selfie itch!

Yours for: P44,990, available via Sony shops and retailers around the metro

THE “#INSTAPOOR BUT WE DON'T MIND” AWARD

Winner: Samsung HU9000 UHD TV

fhm gadget awards 2014

Why it's on the list: It has one of the highest price tags we've seen all year on anything run by electricity and tech lust. That and it's a gorgeous Internet-ready curved boob-tube that serves up ultra-high definition visuals at any angle, and upscales your low-res viewing material. Well deserved SRP, we say!

Get it: Got at least P300,000 lying around somewhere? Good for you. And fuck you. You just made our humble movie/TV show marathons and Home TV Shopping binges look so cheap-o.

THE “IT'S FREAKIN' EVERYWHERE!” AWARD

Winner: Selfie stick a.k.a. the monopod

fhm gadget awards 2014

Why it's on the list: We first saw a selfie stick for real in 2013, and laughed at the user for daring to bring a contraption like that to a public place. Fast forward a year later, and yep, it's everywhere. Might as well call two-oh-fourteen as the year of the humble monopod's rise.

Yours for: Prices range from P400 to P3,000, depending on the added features. You can buy it via CD-R King or phone supplies stalls inside malls. And please, don't use dustpans.

THE "WTF, A PHONE CAN DO THAT?" AWARD

Winner: OPPO N3

Video via Gizchina

Why it's on the list: Do you know another phone that has an automated rotating camera? Also, the N3 comes with awesome hardware (quad-core, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, among others) that makes it capable of doing much more than just take selfies.

Yours for: P29,900, check out OPPO Philippines' Facebook page for more info on local availability

THE “YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE NOT TO GET YOUR FILES” AWARD

Winner: WD My Cloud

Video via WD, a Western Digital Company

Why it's on the list: Aside from the obvious need to back up ALL THE PO, er, digital files, this external hard drive enables wireless file transfers and locks critical data down with built-in security features. It also uses the power of cloud computing so you can basically access files in it from anywhere you have stable Internet connection, may it be wired or wirelesswhich means you can't use the lame "I forgot it at home" excuse anymore if your boss knows you have this dandy external hard drive.

Yours for: P7,490 (2TB), P8,990 (3TB), P11,490 (4TB); available via WD stores and retailers around the metro

THE “IT'S SO TECHIE AND FASYON” AWARD

Winner: Misfit Shine

fhm gadget awards 2014

Why it's on the list: Wearable tech has gotten much better through the years, in terms of both looks and function. The Misfit Shine got us actually wanting to jump on the activity-tracking bandwagon for the following reasons: It's as small as a P5 coin, made with aircraft-grade aluminum and made to be waterproof, plays nice (and wirelessly!) with iOS and Android, and it can be clipped anywhere on your body―not just slapped on your wrist. Plus, it looks oh-so-sleek, too!

Get it: P6,800 via Power Mac Center outlets

THE "WE NEVER THOUGHT WE'LL SEE THE DAY" AWARD

Winner: Nokia X

fhm gadget awards 2014

Why it's on the list: Before the X's arrival, the idea that Nokia will come out with a smartphone powered by Android seemed ridiculous. But hey, they did! It won't blow you away in terms of sheer hardware but the X already has a place in tech history as the first official Android-powered Nokia phone.

Yours for: P5,990, available via Nokia Stores and retailers around the metro

THE "THAT REMINDS ME OF MY YOGA INSTRUCTOR" AWARD

Winner: Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro

Video via Lenovo

Why it's on the list: Aside from scoring big on the specs-sheet (Intel Core M processor, 13.3-inch 3200x1800 touchscreen, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD), the Yoga 3 Pro also has a display that flips a full 360 degrees. This allows you to transform it from a laptop to a tablet in a jiffy. Talk about flexibility that reminds us of why we always want to go to yoga classes!

Yours for: P76,995 via Lenovo shops and retailers around the metro
