On Monday night, September 26 (New York time), US presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump engaged in a much-awaited debate.

The debate, which was sponsored by the nonpartisan and nonprofit Commission on Presidential Debates, was held at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.

The 90-minute debate was divided into six segments, each 15 minutes long. Lester Holt, anchor of NBC Nightly News, was the moderator.

As expected, Trump behaved like his usual not-quite-pleasant self. For starters, Vox pointed out that he interrupted Clinton 25 times in the first 26 minutes of the debate.

Trump fired off his usual hyperboles and contradictions. Here are just five of them.

THE ART OF THE HUMBLEBRAG STATEMENT

What Trump said: "Well, for one thing, and before we start on that, my father gave me a very small loan in 1975 and I built it into a company that's worth many, many billions of dollars with some of the greatest assets in the world and I say that because that's the kind of thinking our country needs."

The real deal: Though Trump wants people to believe that he is a self-made man. The "small loan" from his father was $1 million. Moreover, as the Washington Post indicated, his father was also involved in many of his projects.

THE DUBIOUS ACHIEVEMENT
What Trump said: "I did a great job and a great service, not only for the country, but even for the President in getting him to produce his birth certificate."

The real deal: Trump thinks he should be praised for making allegations that President Barack Obama is not American. Er...do you congratulate someone who yells, "Fire!" when there isn't one?

SELF-ESTEEM OVERLOAD

What Trumpm said: "I think my strongest asset, maybe by far is my temperament. I have a winning temperament. I know how to win. She does not."

The real deal: Maybe Trump sees himself this way and his followers agree, but he's been called other names that probably reflect reality better.

STANDARD SEXIST DIG
What Trump said: "She doesn't have the look. She doesn't have the stamina. I said she doesn't have the stamina, and I don't believe she does have the stamina. To be president of this country, you need tremendous stamina."

The real deal: If there's any woman capable of shutting up and outperforming Trump, it's Clinton.

TIME TRAVEL FAIL
What Trump said: "No wonder you've been fighting ISIS your entire adult life."

The real deal: TIME explained, "Though the complicated factors in play in the establishment of ISIS go back for generations and the organization’s founders were operating in the 1990s, it was not until 2013 that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi gave the group that name." Clinton was born in 1947.
