The first local officials to cede to President Rodrigo Duterte's crusade against drugs are a town mayor and councilor in Abra.

Manabo town Mayor Darell Damasing, 37 years old, and San Juan Councilor Generoso Bose, 54, reportedly signed an oath of undertaking like other personalities involved in drugs, according to authorities. This comes after Duterte's stern warning that he will reveal the names of politicos caught in the web of illegal drug trade.

Damasing and Bose vowed to end their illicit operations and help the police in turning in the bigger fish. The former is under the National Unity Party, while the latter is a member of the Liberal Party.

Meanwhile, more than 9,000 self-confessed drug users and pushers from 19 towns and two cities in Pampanga turned themselves in to authorities on Thursday morning.

According GMA News, the drug contingent gathered at the San Fernando Sports Complex for police profiling and to assure authorities they would quit their illegal drug activities.

Provincial Police Director Senior Supt. Rodolfo Recomono, Jr. said there were 8,736 drug users and 522 drug pushers among the surrenderees, Sun.Star reported.

Recomono also said the mass surrender was due to "Oplan Tokhang," wherein authorities go door to door and urge drug suspects to give themselves up.

Earlier, the National Capital Region Police Office said around 18,000 drug suspects have already surrendered in the first two weeks of July.
