News flash, FHM Nation: The Axe Apollo Space Academy's search for the first Filipino astronaut is now down to its last three candidates!
Meet the three space amigos: Chino Roque, Ramil Santos, and Evan Rey Datuin
These men will be the country's representatives to the Axe Apollo Global Space Camp in Orlando, Florida this coming December. There they will face the grandest test of them all: astronaut training. "Through the Axe Apollo Space Academy, we have set out to inspire modern-day Filipino heroes to step forward," says Axe Philippines Brand Manager Gem Laforteza. "The title of the 'first Filipino in space' will go to the best candidate, someone all Filipinos can look up to—figuratively and literally."
So here's the thing: You are now looking at three of the most handsome Pinoys in the country right now, because (1) one of them is set to make space history and (2) if you believe those Axe Apollo commercials, women go cray-cray over astronauts.
Having said all that, we have two questions for you: Being that you didn't make it, who'd you rather see go to space? And do you wanna bet on it? Scroll down to know more about our contenders:
Evan Rey Datuin
Premise: "The Everyman"
Education: De La Salle University Dasmariñas
Backstory: Would you believe that the man who is about to represent the Philippines in this space mission once called himself a simpleng tambay? Though he sees himself as an everyman, his journey to space camp was no regular feat. Among the three final candidates, he is the only one who emerged victorious from the mainstream competition, being one of two finalists from more than 28,000 applicants. He also bested over 4,000 shortlisted candidates at the Axe Apollo National Challenge last September. Afterwards, he was like, "Meh." Physically, Evan looks like a hugot in a barangay basketball leagues (meaning he's tall, athletic-looking, and seems like someone you wouldn't want to mess with). There's something about the way he moves that makes us want to put our money on him.
Key attributes: Effortless physicality and in-born natural athleticism
Would he sacrifice his life for mankind's sake? "Oo, tutulong ako, pero sisiguraduhin ko na hindi naman ako mapapahamak."
If he can bring one item to space, it would be: "A camera. Para pwede akong mag-selfie. Tsaka para din makita ng mga kababayan natin kung ano talaga itsura ng space."
Closing argument: "Gusto kong maging patunay na kahit sino ay maaaring maging bayani para sa kanyang bayan."
