President Rodrigo Duterte has named the five elite officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.

Duterte dropped the names of the erring generals during the 69th anniversary of the Philippine Air Force at Clark Air Base in Pampanga.

“I am compelled by my sense of duty na sabihin sa inyo lahat lalo na yung mga pulis na nasabit sa droga, one way or another who contributed to the deterioration of the law and order of this country,” he began.

“All along tayong mga mamamayan thought that we are being protected by the police, primarily… By any languages it is really treason.”

He then named the following officials and subsequently ordered them to be relieved from their respective posts:
- General Bernardo Diaz
- General Marcelo Garbo
- General Vincent Loot
- General Joel Pagdilao
- General Edgardo Tinio

Aside from this, Duterte also asked the National Police Commission to place them under investigation.

The move comes after PNP Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa announced a 48-hour deadline for cops involved in illegal drug activities to surrender.

However, the deadline lapsed with zero surrenderees.

Prior to this, Dela Rosa subjected over 2,000 PNP officials to a surprise drug test during his first day of assuming his post.

At least 11 of these officials have already tested positive to drug use which disappointed Dela Rosa.
