The tense situation at the Eton Centris compound in Quezon City was concluded peacefully after a drunk security guard, who reportedly pointed his gun at random employees, surrendered to authorities.
According to GMA News Online, the guard, identified as Herminigildo Marsula Jr., surrendered around 8 a.m. to the Philippine National Police (PNP) that deployed their personnel to secure the area.
QCPD Director PNP Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar said this positive development was mainly due to the help of Marsula’s family members, who rushed to the scene to persuade him to give up.
Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident. “Wala siyang nasaktan kaya nga't gusto natin panatilihin na maayos ang lugar na ito at tuluy-tuloy ang business sa area na 'yon… Walang hostage-taking, walang amok, hindi siya nagpaputok. Kumbaga ‘yung sarili niya gusto niya lang mapag-isa dahil sa problema niya,” Eleazar said.
Marsula, who has been rushed to the hospital following his surrender, reportedly caused the scene due to personal problems with finances in the family. Despite the peaceful outcome, he will be charged with grave threats and alarm and scandal.
Eton Centris is a midsize commercial district with BPOs, a mini mall surrounded by other establishments, and is mainly accessible via the Quezon Avenue MRT station. Meanwhile, here are some social media reactions to the incident, mostly from BPO employees who work there.
