Don't believe reports of a Japanese man being crushed to death under the weight of his six-ton pornographic magazine collection.

The Daily Mail first came out with the news of a 50-year-old man's lifeless body found by his landlord after the latter inspected the room to collect rent. According to the report, the account came from one of the cleaners, who was sent to the room to discreetly discard the prized possession.

The WTF story quickly went viral and was even picked up by other media outfits, after which Gizmodo checked its veracity. Turns out, some parts of the narrative were sensationalized.

While a porn collector did die of heart attack a month ago and was just discovered recently, he wasn't squished by his pile of erotica but instead fell on top of it. What made the news more grim was the detail about the corpse's bodily fluids seeping into the NSFW heap.

"In order not to become a shame of the deceased, we try to dispose of adult toys in the room so that the bereaved family will not be aware of it," a cleaning specialist in lonely deaths told Nikkan Spa.

It appears that living and dying alone is fairly common in Japan that they even have a term for it: kodokushi. Maybe that should be of real concern here.
