The newly minted PNP chief said the surprise drug test sought to show transparency, with Dela Rosa even taking one himself, ABS-CBN News reported.
“Siyempre, to be transparent, to show everyone na ako mismo ay drug-free. Para lahat sila walang rason ang pulis sa baba na hindi magpa-drug test. Ako nga, nagpa-drug test. Sila, hindi?” he pointed out.
Dela Rosa told GMA News that officials who tested positive for illegal drug use will not only be relieved from their posts but will also lose their jobs.
He further explained that the measure aims to ensure that all senior officials holding key positions in the PNP are capable of being role models to their respective subordinates.
Earlier, Dela Rosa issued a warning to erring cops involved in illegal drug activities and called on them to surrender within 48 hours.
“Kayong mga kotong, abusado, tamad at sindikatong pulis, bilang na ang mga araw ninyo… In our fight against drugs, criminality and corruption it is either you are with me or you are not with me. If you are with me, then let's do it. But if you are not with me, then you are finished,” he said.
The PNP chief’s pronouncements are in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s tough stance against drugs and his promise to rid the country of criminality within six months of assuming power.
