President Rodrigo Duterte has once again floated the idea of boxing icon turned politician Senator Manny Pacquiao becoming the next president of the Philippines.

Duterte referred to Pacquiao as the “president to be” during the latter’s 38th birthday celebration in his hometown of General Santos City over the weekend, the Inquirer reports.

“I think you will also be President, it’s true. Sundan mo lang yan linya mo,” he said.

He also advised the eight division world champion to keep his feet on the ground and not let the numerous achievements he attained to get to his head.

This was not the first time Duterte seemingly endorsed Pacquiao as the next president.

In November, Duterte raised Pacquiao’s hand and said “for president na ito” when the latter paid him courtesy call following his victory over former WBO welterweight champion Jesse Vargas.

Pacquiao has previously been known to have mentioned that he was open to the idea of running for president in the next national elections come 2022.

His promoter, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum was even recently quoted as saying Pacquiao’s presidential ambitions.

For his part, Duterte seems to be showing increased favor towards Pacquiao who has been one of his staunch supporters since the campaign period.
