Former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is soon to be set free after the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday ordered her immediate release from detention.

The order came after the SC acquitted Arroyo from the plunder raps she was facing in relation to the alleged misuse of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office's P366 million intelligence fund, the Inquirer reported.

Voting 11-4 in favor of the former president's petition, the SC En Banc dismissed the plunder raps due to an apparent lack in evidence.

Meanwhile, former first gentleman Mike Arroyo expressed his relief on the SC's favorable ruling.

"Thank God. They took away six years of her life—an innocent woman," he told GMA News.

Arroyo, who has been blamed by her successor, former president Benigno Aquino III, for the rampant corruption in the government has been under hospital since 2012.

She currently resides at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City, but has managed to make a political comeback after winning a Congressional seat in her hometown of Pampanga.

Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte offered her a presidential pardon but she declined, saying that that the move would mean she would have to admit to guilt in her cases.
