Airport authorities apprehended Filipino-American Rufino Rondaris at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Tuesday for apparently possessing not one piece, but a box of bullets, GMA News reported.
The 79-year-old retired United States Air Forces serviceman, for his part, denied owning the bullets.
He said he would have already been arrested at the Los Angeles airport if he actually attempted to bring the box here.
Rondaris is currently under the custody of airport authorities and will be facing illegal possession of ammunition charges.
The extortion scheme was last heard of in April, where an elderly couple was apprehended for having a .38 caliber bullet in their luggage.
Laglag-bala gained notoriety in 2015 after a series of victims, foreigners and locals alike, expressed their distrust and disgust at NAIA personnel for allegedly conniving to extort money from them.
