The Supreme Court (SC) has recently decided that it was allowing the construction of the Torre de Manila after it dismissed a petition against the high-rise condominium project that apparently photobombs the scenic backdrop of the historical Rizal Monument in Manila.

With a vote of 9-6, the SC said DMCI can continue with the half-finished project which will rise into a 49-storey building, ABS-CBN News reports.

“The court has no jurisdiction over the subject matter; the petitioners have no standing to sue; and they stand to suffer no injury. Furthermore, the court also found that there is no law that prohibits the construction of the challenged Torre de Manila,” the SC said in a statement.

The Order of the Knights of Rizal for their part graciously accepted the outcome of their petition.

The group initially started the petition back in 2014 where they asked the SC to order the demolition of the Torre de Manila with the aim of preserving the country's cultural heritage.

Meanwhile, most Pinoy netizens don’t seem pleased following news of the SC’s decision.

It’s pretty clear with these comments that corruption is being blamed as the main culprit. If he were alive, what do you think the great Gat Jose Rizal would do?
