It is difficult to predict which jobs are going to do well, and which will not. Reports about employment growth and rankings of the best hires from universities may be in the news lately, but that doesn't mean the search for the best opportunity for yourself will get any easier.
To help fresh graduates and job seekers, JobStreet Philippines has recently released its Fresh Graduates Report, a survey that not only details which industries in 2016 were the hottest destinations for first time employees, but also the careers that will likely trend this year.
Based on the unique jobs published on JobStreet.com from September to December 2016, the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry expectedly took the lion’s share of available employment opportunities for fresh graduates last year, with 66 percent of jobs offered.
The retail and real estate industries, which contributed 2 percent and 1.5 percent of total jobs available respectively, came next. Rounding up the top 10 were stints at manufacturing, food and beverage, banking, construction, telecommunications (a new entrant this year, replacing healthcare), general and wholesale trading, and IT-software companies.
Meanwhile, here are 10 jobs that are primed to be in big demand in 2017 and beyond.
1) Customer Service - 50 percent
2) Tech and Helpdesk Support - 8 percent
3) Telesales/Telemarketing - 6 percent
4) IT/Hardware - 2.8 percent
5) Hotel/Tourism - 2.4 percent
6) Clerical/Admin Support - 2.3 percent
7) Banking - 2.3 percent
8) Nursing - 2.2 percent
9) Human Resources - 2 percent
10) Education - 2 percent
For fresh graduates to get hired asap, JobStreet.com says they need to brush up on these three essential skills: analysis, English communication, and problem-solving capabilities.
“More than any time in recent history, the changes in attitude and preferences in employment have become rapid and constant," say Philip Gioca, country manager of Jobstreet.com Philippines. "Job seekers should equip themselves with further knowledge should they want a distinct advantage in this highly competitive field.”
