Beer makes everything a little bit better. Admit it, the beloved drink gives you the courage to do things you wouldn’t otherwise if you were sober, and well, it’s just something men can’t live without just because.

This is probably why a team of scientists from the University of California have decided to compete in a space project that will allow them to brew their very own beer on the moon—for the sake of mankind’s survival and of course, science.

According to the Telegraph, a team led by Srivaths Kaylan are hard at work in developing the perfect space-brewing process that could allow you to get tipsy, even while on the moon.

“Our canister is designed based on actual fermenters. It contains three compartments, the top will be filled with unfermented beer, and the second will contain the yeast. When the rover lands on the Moon with our experiment, a valve will open between the two compartments, allowing the two to mix Once the yeast has done its job, a second valve will open to allow it to sink to separate from the now fermented beer,” Kaylan said.

But before they actually get the chance to pull this off, they have to best 24 other teams vying for a spot for their experiment on the TeamIndus spacecraft.

TeamIndus for its part is competing for the Google Lunar XPRIZE where the first team to send a rover to the moon and send back high quality media back to Earth before 2017 ends will be $20 million richer.

Here’s to hoping that the project of our beertastic friends make it to TeamIndus, and the moon.
