Vice President Leni Robredo received a warm welcome from top government officials when she attended her first Cabinet meeting in Malacañan as head of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) on Monday.
In a post on its Facebook account, the Presidential Communications Office shared photos of Robredo with other Cabinet members.
Among these were Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco, Jr., and Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.
A light moment, Robredo and Transportation Secretary Arthur “Art” Tugade was also caught on camera prior to the meeting.
According to Robredo's spokesperson Georgina Hernandez, the Vice President’s initial aim for the meeting was to get to know the policy and priorities of the Duterte administration.
“She was given a packet of documents to study and prepare for her first Cabinet meeting,” Hernandez said in a statement that appeared on Sun.Star.
President Rodrigo Duterte, who was initially hesitant in giving the VP a Cabinet post, appointed Robredo as the head of the HUDCC through a televised phone call during his second meeting with Cabinet officials last Thursday.
Robredo accepted the offer and thanked the President for giving her a chance to better serve the marginalized sector especially those lacking homes.
“Mas mapaglilingkuran natin ang ating mga kababayang walang tahanan at maipagpapatuloy natin ang ating pangakong itulak ang kaunlaran at kaginhawaan para sa ating mga kapus palad na kababayan,” she said in a statement.
