Getting back into the dating world after breaking up with your girlfriend can be a daunting task, more so if you were together for years. But you have to move on, pal. You have to date again. Grieving about your past relationship won’t help you find that special someone you can spend the rest of your life with.

Lucky for you, we’ve listed these eight cleaver tips below, Sir Weeps-A-Lot.

1) Throw way all the things that remind you of her

By “all,” that means every damn thing, and this includes that cute photo of her in your wallet and the cool T-shirt she gave you for your anniversary. By keeping those things, you keep yourself in the past—unable to see that there might be someone right here in the present that’s willing to give you some love.

2) Don’t talk to her

Talking to your ex makes it difficult to move on and meet someone new. Block her on Facebook and delete her contact number RN!

3) Update your look

Girls do it, so why can’t guys? You’ve looked like this for the past few years because your ex liked it that way. But she’s gone, so it's time for an upgrade. Change it up. Even the little things, like getting a haircut and shaving off your beard, can rejuvenate your shaken spirit.

4) Try dating apps (like Tinder)

It’s not a desperate move. It’s a legitimate way to meet new girls.

5) Don’t talk about your past

Stories about your ex can get messy, especially when you’re on a hot date. Pro-tip: leave all that bitterness at the door.

6) Don’t rush things

The worst thing you can do is to try to rush into a new relationship. It’s not a race. If your ex finds someone before you do, then just wish the guy some luck. If she really is a horror, then he’s going to need a lot of it.

7) If she’s not your type, be honest

This goes hand in hand with the previous tip. In your attempt to find love, you might have cloudy judgment. Sometimes, you need to take a step back and ask yourself, “Okay, do I really like this girl or am I just pretending to like her so I won’t be alone anymore?” Answer it as honestly as you can.

8) Maybe it’s alright to be on your own

Don’t obsess over finding a girl. There are a lot of other cool things and activities that you might have missed out on while you were in a relationship. Now’s the time to establish a relationship with yourself.
