If Joseph Levitt’s role as a porn addict in the movie Don Jon taught us anything, it’s that too much masturbation can be harmful for your sex life. Now, a new study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior confirms this.

The researchers asked 7,600 men, aged 18 to 60, whether or not they had solo sessions in the past two weeks, how often they get laid, and if they were satisfied with the sexual intercourse.

It’s not exactly surprising that a whopping 61 percent of the respondents admitted to masturbating in the past 14 days. But what’s quite alarming is that the researchers found that men who frequently do it solo are less satisfied in the bedroom. By masturbating more often, the researchers explain that your body will start to assume that that's how sex should feel. Plus, frequent masturbation keeps the volume of ejaculate low because the body takes time to synthesize it.

The takeaway: It’s all good if you want to please yourself. After all, masturbation has its own set of benefits. Just make sure you’re not letting your self-service become more exciting than your relationship with your partner.
