You might need to say goodbye to oral sex. Medical experts claim that receiving blowjobs and performing cunnilingus are among the leading causes of mouth cancer.

According to online health clinic Euroclinix, the rise in mouth cancer patients could be linked to the increase in cases of human papilloma virus (HPV) transmittal through oral sex. HPV affects the skin found in areas of the body exposed to moisture— including the mouth, rectum, cervix, and throat.

In most cases, HPV goes away on its own and doesn't cause any health problems. But in some cases, it persists and leads to genital warts.

"We have known for some time that many genital cancers including vulval, cervical, penile, and anal are associated with the wart virus," says Dr. Helen Webberley, a general practitioner for Oxford Online Pharmacy. "So it seems a logical conclusion that the same should apply to mouth cancers."

Symptoms of mouth cancer include ulcers that don't heal, persistent discomfort or pain in the mouth, white or red patches in the mouth or throat, difficulty swallowing, a lump in the neck, unexplained weight loss, and bad breath.

For those who still want to enjoy the pleasures of oral sex, researchers suggest using a condom or asking your girl to wear a dental dam, a tool placed over a woman's vagina. This way, the risk of contracting an infection will be reduced.

You scientists are no fun!
