Some studies suggest that frequent masturbation is a good thing. There are proven health benefits such as reduced prostate cancer risk and lower stress levels. But just like any good thing, it comes with a downside.

In a study published in Biological Psychology on August 10, 2015, scientists Dr. Stuart Brody and Tillman Kruger found out that too many visits with Mariang Palad can lead to addiction. Using data from previous studies on sex and masturbation, the two researchers were able to pinpoint why real sex is more beneficial to our well-being than auto-stimulation.

Are you ready? We suggest you go through the next part very thoroughly:

When we reach climax, our body produces several hormones. Two of the most relevant in this particular study are dopamine and oxytocin. Dopamine gives you that feeling of happiness. Oxytocin ensures that you feel satisfied—as if you've just had dinner and don't feel hungry anymore.

Here's where it gets interesting: The body apparently produces less oxytocin when you orgasm by way of masturbation than when you reach it with a partner. To be specific, the study showed that the body produced 400 percent more oxytocin (and a related hormone, prolactin) after sex than after a good ol' fap session.

What does this mean? We get a higher level of satisfaction after real sex as opposed to that other thing.

While both types of sexual expressions stimulate dopamine production in the body, the lack of oxytocin production with masturbation is the danger here. It's the oxytocin that tells your body, "Okay, your sexual appetite has been satisfied. Do something else, in the meantime." Since you don't have enough oxytocin after spanking the monkey, there's a chance you'll end up, well, spanking the monkey again.

And as you squeeze yourself more, your tolerance heightens, thus creating a potential opening for an addiction.

The solution: Go out there and play! (Just remember to protect yourself at all times!)
