With all that's been going on around the massive world of sports this February, it should come to everyone as no surprise that you and the person next to you might be talking about it all month.
The Azkals, for one, recently pulled off a 2-0 victory against team Mongolia earlier this month.
The Green Bay Packers snagged a Superbowl XLV victory a few weeks ago.
And then there's the BJ Penn-Jon Fitch superfight happening at UFC 128 this Sunday, February 27.
The previous weekend alone heralded us with sports events big enough to get our minds and mouths running. A three-point list: 1. NBA All-Star Weekend. 2. Nonito Donaire's knockout punch, and 3. the new PBA season.
PBA’s Latest Season Already Under Way
The PBA is back and running again, barely two weeks after the Talk N’ Text Tropang Texters bagged the championship trophy at the All-Filipino Cup.
The Commissioner’s Cup however, has a few league changes right up its sleeve. Our beloved import players, for one, will make a comeback in this conference. Two relatively new teams, Meralco and Smart Gilas, return with new players. Know more about it here.
Quite an Epic All-Star Weekend
This year’s NBA All-Star Weekend ended up being extra awesome, highlighted by LeBron James’ triple-double performance despite a losing effort against the West, 148-143.
The All-Star Game however is just the cherry on top of a very epic weekend: Blake Griffin leaping off a sports car, James Jones outscoring Celtics shooters and John Wall beating Chris Paul’s assist record. Check out game photos and videos here.
Carmelo Anthony will headline the deadline
We all know about Carmelo Anthony’s intentions to depart Denver en route to the Eastern Conference, with the New Jersey Nets and the New York Knicks actively pursuing the 4-time all-star.
With the trade deadline approaching this Friday, Knicks and Nets sources both confirm that potential deals in exchange for Anthony are both final. Find out who will be traded alongside ‘Melo in this NBA.com story.
Nonito Donaire is Da Man now
Nonito Donaire’s vicious knockout victory against Fernando Montiel during Sunday’s title fight should be the talk of the town in the boxing world this week. The Filipino Flash’s left hand cross took out the champion halfway the second round, earning himself the WBO and WBC Bantamweight titles. And now another Pinoy is getting the prodigy treatment, as evidenced by this Yahoo Sports story.
PBA D-League Kicking Off in March
The PBA D-League, made to replace the now-defunct Philippine Basketball League (PBL), will finally kick off March 12. A total of 14 teams will reportedly comprise this inaugural tournament, including Maynilad, Cebuana Lhuillier, and Powerade (which will be comprised of the UP Fighting Maroons).
