9 Things About the 9.5-oz shoe from Adidas!
About a decade ago, the word “lighter/magaan” wasn’t routinely used to describe a shoe. “Mahal,” “ganda kulay,” and “sapatos ni (insert popular NBA player here)” were the go-to shoe descriptions for braggarts. Then about a year ago, Adidas introduced the Adizero Crazy Light. A new generation of kicks was born.
Adidas recently announced their update to the lightest shoe in the world by staging a basketball camp for select members of the media, FHM (and our beer belly) included. The camp utilized a number of basketball-related drills (plyometrics, agility test, and other all kasumpa-sumpa activities) and a 30-minute game to showcase just how awesome the Crazy Light 2 is.
So, how awesome? Well, at 9.5 ounces (it’s 0.3 ounces lighter than its predecessor and also 10-percent lighter than any other shoe around) it felt like running with really soft flip-flops under your bare feet while also being snugly hugged by an ultra-clingy and charmingly protective girlfriend.
How the hell did that happen and why on Earth should that matter follows…

1 The upper’s a Monocoque
That’s French for single shell, meaning that the multi-layered, multi-textured upper supports all the weight the shoe is carrying. It’s a construction technique that basically eliminates bulky foundations, and for a shoe that means less foam but still ample or even better support.
