Olympic Special: 8 Dream Team Dream Kicks
The 2012 Olympics, which begins on July 27, marks the 20th anniversary of the original Dream Team—a team composed of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Bird, Barkley, and other pretty special players.
The year was 1992, and for the first time, NBA players were allowed to participate. The result: total domination. Jordan and the rest of the U.S squad shook not just opposing teams, not just the streets of Barcelona, but the whole world as well. Basketball had become a global sport at that point, with the overwhelming, rabid reaction of the viewing populace as proof.
Since then, the U.S. has hoarded the gold, failing only in 2004 with a bronze finish. What have we learned in that span of time? You need to get a bit lucky to win against these guys.
And that they have really sick kicks. Mostly Nikes.
In this Olympic special, we present to you, eight of ‘em—a mix of the new and the old, being released by Nike. Will they be available in local shores? Chances for the retro sets are slim to none. As for the more current models, we’ll tune in to Nike Philippines and specialty basketball stores such as Titan if they’ll be carrying these anytime soon. If all else fails, well, you can always call your hardcore sneakerhead buddy to help you out!

As seen on: Vince Carter, 2000 Olympics
Carter’s crazy hops were on full display in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney when he dunked on 7-footer Frederic Weis. “It must’ve been those shoe springs!” we all exclaimed. Now, some of us will have a chance to test it out again, as Nike re-releases the model as part of Nike’s Olympic “Player Pack.”
