We’ve all been there: TFW you see a really nice jacket at the mall, try it on to see that it fits you perfectly, but then ultimately decide to pass on it because a little voice in your head will tell you: “Ang init sa Pinas, masusuot mo ba talaga ‘yan?” So you put it back on the rack and get another graphic T-shirt instead.

The little voice does have a point—our climate isn’t exactly conducive to layering, which is a shame, because that can be a real style crutch. You’re tired of wearing unflattering T-shirts and polos, but you don’t want to be the douchebag who’s sweating beads in a hoodie under the sun. Thankfully, the holiday season is around the corner, and with it comes the coolest time of the year. AccuWeather expects an average temperature of 21°C to 30°C in December 2016 and January 2017—while that isn’t really anything special, it’s still a lot more hospitable than the rest of the year, making it the best time to layer up.

So for now, you can shut that little voice up and pull the trigger on that jacket you’ve been wanting to cop. If you haven’t found it yet, here are a couple of suggestions.

Uniqlo U MA-1 Blouson

The Japanese fast-fashion label recently collaborated with Christophe Lemaire, former creative director of Hermes, to create a line called Uniqlo U. This MA-1 Bomber Jacket in burgundy is a standout piece from the collection, available exclusively at Uniqlo SM Megamall.

Burton Tan Suedette Bomber Jacket

If you’d like to take a more casual approach to the bomber jacket trend (which, to be honest, has been a trend for a while now), try something like this one by Burton—cleaner, more minimal, but in a nice color.

Bench x Rafe Denim Bomber Jacket

But if you’d like to subvert the bomber jacket trend altogether, try on this Carhartt-inspired denim one by Bench (yes, Bench), from their collaboration with Filipino designer Rafe Totengco. We think it’s one of the only truly wearable pieces from that collection, but we’d definitely wear the shit out of it.

H&M Bomber Jacket

Or you could just go for the simplest option: a straightforward bomber jacket in black nylon. H&M has you covered. Look for this in their L.O.G.G. section.

Alpha Industries Souvenir Jacket

If you feel like ballin’ out this Christmas, invest in the Alpha Industries souvenir jacket. Alpha is known for making military-grade outerwear, but they’ve also branched out into fashion. This souvenir jacket (while also military in nature) is an example of that. Check it out at Commonwealth in SM Aura.

Topman Souvenir Jacket

But if you’d like to hump the souvenir jacket trend without blowing your pockets out, drop by Topman and see if you can’t find this Kyoto bomber jacket.

H&M Wool Blend Shirt Jacket

If you’re looking for something less laidback, go for this Wool Blend Shirt Jacket from H&M. Shirt jackets (also known as shackets) are jackets cut like button-down shirts, heavier than your usual oxford dress shirt but lighter than a regular jacket. It’s a convenient in-between, and is especially appropriate in the office.

Burton Camel Harrington Jacket

Invoke the timeless style of Old Hollywood Americana with a Harrington jacket, like this one from Burton. It’s especially iconic in camel or khaki.

H&M Short Parka

Whether you’re looking to travel or just interested in dressing like an outdoorsman, H&M’s Short Parka is a good option. It’s a bit more padded than most jackets, though, so consider that this might be the kind of jacket you can only wear in this season.

Uniqlo M-65 Blouson

The iconic M-65 from the Vietnam War was interpreted by Uniqlo as a very lightweight, rain-resistant jacket that’s incredibly functional for commuters.

Rains Breaker

If you’re looking to stay dry in utmost style, check out Rains. It’s a Danish brand of rainproof outerwear, stocked locally by General PH. Think of their tailored raincoats as the most stylish kapotes ever.

Levi's Trucker Jacket

Or go with a classic—the denim jacket, by the denim pioneers. Levi’s trucker jacket is a can’t-miss, can’t-fail icon that belongs in any guy’s wardrobe. Try it in grey or black, so it’s a little more contemporary.

Uniqlo U Long Sleeve Sweat Pullover Hoodie

At the end of the day, nothing beats a good old-fashioned hoodie. Replace the ratty one that you stash in the office with this pullover by Uniqlo U. It’s slightly heavier than their regular cotton hoodies, making it cozier for the colder season. It fits exceptionally, too—a large hood, a slim-straight body, vertically-slit side pockets, and tailored sleeves are small details that go a long way in making it look better than a lot of regular department store hoodies.
