Just like any other grooming regimen, maintaining an anti-aging routine can be a pain in the ass, especially if you’re the soap-shampoo-shave-repeat kind of guy. But really, simply washing your face just doesn’t cut it these days, if you’re planning to age gracefully that is. So if you’ve been considering starting an anti-aging practice this coming 2017 (or much better, right now), here’s a no-nonsense guide to add to your usual grooming habits.

Step 1: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

Your girlfriend spends a whole lot of time finding and testing a good moisturizer and it’s for a very important reason. You see, moisturizing is the anchor to keeping your skin healthy, and the sooner you start, the greater the final payoff will be. Moisturizers do not just keep your skin soft and hydrated—it also prevents the appearance of lines, wrinkles, and blemishes. In short, it leaves your face flawless (that is, when you apply it religiously).

Better yet, take that moisturizing habit to the next level and get one with SPF. Moisturizers with SPF give your skin that much-needed protection from the sun’s harsh rays. Plus, it further prevents your skin from aging fast.

How to use: Use twice a day, morning and night. After washing, apply it to face and throat all over, or where needed.

Step 2: Don’t forget the eye area

According to Kiehl's USA President and author of Manmade: The Essential Skincare & Grooming Reference for Every Man, Chris Salgardo: “Think of your eye area as the dashboard of a car, if you leave it untreated in the sun, it will fade and crack. Same with the skin around your eyes. You’ll first really notice aging on men’s skin specifically in the eye area.”

Fading and cracking skin sounds scary, right? No worries, eye creams are here to the rescue. Eye creams do not just erase lines around your peepers—it also reduces puffiness and dark circles caused by lack of sleep, too much alcohol, stress, and everything else in between. Heck, it even staves years off your appearance! An eye cream is also packed with extra Vitamin C and peptides to increase the collagen production in your skin cells, thus preserving or restoring its elasticity. Applying it is like hitting the refresh button, that's how, err, refreshing it is.

And just so you know, the skin around your eyes is 10 times thinner than the skin on your face, so really, give it some TLC by applying an eye cream.

How to use: Use twice a day, morning and night. Remember: Eye creams should be gently tapped in and cover the area from just below the tear duct to the start of your eyebrow.

Step 3: Apply serum

Serum is light enough to penetrate all three skin layers, giving you a much better result than applying a moisturizer alone. And aside from hydrating the skin, serums also lift, firm, and nourish the skin, giving you that youthful glow—literally. Simply put, serums are like hybrid moisturizers. And yes, it doubles the age-prevention, too.

How to use: Use twice a day, morning and night. Apply serum after washing your face, and before moisturizer.
