There’s nothing like the thrill of a great night out on the town: hitting a club in your most pogi ensemble, enjoying great music, possibly even going home with a hot girl’s number. But sometimes, we can’t deny our aging tastes—more often than not, we’d rather let our inner tito take the reins, forgoing the rowdy crowds for no-frills drinks with the gang. Here, we listed some of the best watering holes around Metro Manila, whether you’re in the mood for a bucket of beer with the buds or an all-night rager.

FOR THAT CHILLNUMAN

1) Crying Tiger Street Kitchen

4986 Guanzon Street, Makati City

Crying Tiger’s run by the same folks behind El Chupacabra and Señor Pollo, so you can expect the same laid-back, ultra-casual atmosphere as with the older establishments. Get a table with your barkada (but act fast, since this hole-in-the-wall gets filled up easily) and get some beer while feasting on their Asian fare.

2) BeerHouse Kapitolyo Brewing Co.

Brixton Victoria Plaza, #1 Brixton St, Kapitolyo, Pasig City

BeerHouse is one of the best places to dip your toes into the Philippine craft beer scene. They offer a wide variety of indie brands, from the more famous Joe’s Brew and Katipunan bottles to draft beer from local breweries like Engkanto, Bulul, and the inhouse Kapitolyo. And since a good drinking session is incomplete without chibog, they serve great grub too.

3) The Penthouse 8747

Penthouse, Lepanto Building, 8747 Paseo de Roxas, Salcedo Village, Makati City

If a classy chillnuman’s what you’re after, you can’t go wrong at Penthouse. This Great Gatsby-themed rooftop bar in the middle of the Makati CBD has great food and drinks to go with the killer skyline views, and they’ve got an in-house DJ. If you can escape the office early, we highly recommend sitting your ass down on one of the couches by fivet-thirsty to unwind while watching the sunset.

4) 12 Monkeys

El Pueblo, Julia Vargas Corner ADB Avenue, Ortigas, Pasig City

Live music and good drinks go hand-in-hand like peanut butter and jelly, and there’s no better place for that than 12 Monkeys. Ebe Dancel, Parokya Ni Edgar, Jensen and the Flips, and other top local bands and singers perform there frequently—follow the bar’s social media accounts so you’ll know when to catch your fave acts live.

5) Tortuga

42A Esteban Abada Street, Loyola Heights, Quezon City

This island-inspired bar just off Katipunan has all the basic ingredients you’ll need for a relaxing night out: affordable beer and cocktails, Mexican-inspired grub, and a beachy vibe. Pro tip: Avoid weekends and Friday nights if you’re since the place can get really packed with noisy YOLO-ing college kids (AKA you, a few years ago).

FOR WALWALAN

1) B-Side

The Collective, 7274 Malugay Street, San Antonio, Makati City

B-Side isn’t for the uptight: this incredibly chill spot encourages folks to come as they are and let loose. They’re especially known for their Irie Sundays—drop by for some good vibes and excellent live reggae.

2) Today X Future

7-T General Malvar Street, Cuabo Expo, Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City

Not quite ready to call it a night after watching a basketball game at the Araneta Coliseum? Wind down at Today x Future. It’s usually a chill place to drink, but drop by late at night to see the crowd at its craziest.

3) Black Market

Warehouse 5, La Fuerza Plaza, Chino Roces Avenue Corner Sabio Street, San Lorenzo, Makati City

Black Market isn’t an EDM place—you’re better off going to the BGC clubs for that. People go to this trippy warehouse for their fill of hiphop and R&B, especially on Bad Decisions Wednesdays. And while you’re there, don’t forget to check out Finders Keepers next door for some excellent cocktails.

4) Valkyrie

The Palace, 9th Avenue Corner 36th Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City

Valk (as the kids are calling it) is one of Metro Manila’s biggest and most reliable venues for serious clubbing, attracting the city’s most beautiful people since their opening. They also have fully consumable party packages for celebrations—you know, just in case you’re thinking of partying here on your birthday.

5) The Palace Pool Club

The Palace, 9th Avenue Corner 36th Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City

Unlike some clubs that can look downright pathetic in the light of day, The Pool Club remains inviting even when the sun’s out. Still, Pool Club in the evening is an amazing sight, with revelers in their slinkiest, tropical best dancing to the music of whichever DJ is taking the stage at the moment. It’s also one of the go-to places for international EDM artists—among the Pool Club’s past guest performers are Steve Aoki, Kaskade, and Alesso.
