Bars iaren't usually associated with romantic dates, unless you want to help calm your nerves with a little liquid confidence. These places are usually loud and full of rowdy looking to mingle, or more perfect for a get-together with your buds.
While these stereotypes do have their merits, there are bars that can act as a catalyst for a budding romance. If you’re not up for the usual uppity, snooty high-class restaurant on your next date, why not give these establishments a try?
3/F Greenbelt 3, Makati City
An obvious nod to the speakeasies of the Prohibition era, Prohibition is tucked away inside Dillinger’s, behind a nondescript back door with a plain Exit sign. Open the door and you’ll be welcomed into a sprawling and lavish-looking bar, with high ceilings, glass mirrors, and cozy nooks and corners. If you want to step away from the vibrant dance tunes, then you can step out onto the balcony and have an intimate view of Makati Avenue, which uncharacteristically quiet at night.
As for the bar part, make sure to grab some grub first (passing by Dillinger’s is ultra-convenient for a full dinner) before coming here.
9/F Raffles Hotel, Makati City
For some reason, city skylines are perfect in creating that romantic ambience. If that’s what you’re going for, then Mireio up on the 9th floor of Raffles hotel is something to consider.
For dinner, you can have some of their fancy French and Mediterranean food, which are usually a hit for dates. It’s fine dining inside, so you may want to dress the part. The roofdeck bar, however, is more casual. Enjoy their signature cocktails, fancy wine selection, and even local beers by the bottle. The fine dining dinner can easily set you back P4,000 for two, while the bar is at an average of at least P200, depending on your choice of drink.
3) Blind Pig
Legaspi Village, Makati City
It’s as private and discreet as can be—and oh so dark, you literally only have a candlelight to illuminate your table. What's more romantic than that?
A pint of beer will cost you about P300, while cocktails start at P370. Not sure what to get and wouldn’t want to fumble your order in front of your date? Ask for the Bartender’s Choice—they’ve got your back.
4) Vu’s Sky Bar and Lounge
45/F Marco Polo, Ortigas
Their menuis comprised of Spanish dishes such as croquettes, paellas, and crème catalan desserts, although they also do serve up some Filipino favorites like chicken inasal. They’re reasonably priced too, with meals starting at P270 and up. As for the bar list, they offer cocktails ranging from P300 to P660, while spirits, wine, and champagne can be ordered either by the glass or by the bottle. Don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes for this one!
5) 77 Bar and Restaurant
Kamuning, Quezon City
Its facade is that of an old house, complete with a driveway and garage gate covered with hanging trellis and vines. The space on the ground floor gives more of a restaurant feel, while the second floor is presumably where all the fun, barkada things occur.
Those sections of this joint are not where you would like to go for your date. Tucked away at the very back of the house, past the garage, is a little al fresco bar hidden mostly from view and accessible to the ground floor restaurant through a sliding door. It’s almost like a backyard patio so the space is small and really intimate. A mini bar is set up for easier access to the ground floor patrons. It’s perfect for a quite wind-down of an otherwise exciting date night.
