True coffee addicts know that the need for caffeine can hit you any time of the day, even late at night. Thankfully, there are loads of cafes now that open even until the wee hours of the morning, so you can catch up with work or wind down with a good cup of brew (or even wine or cocktails) at the end of your busy day.
1) Cafe Barbera
Whether you're in need of a quiet spot after a fun night out at Uptown Parade, or are just looking for a caffeine boost no matter the time, Cafe Barbera can deliver. The Naples-based coffee chain prides itself in serving coffee the same way they do back in Italy—meaning they only use beans hand-roasted in Naples, plus the right milk temperature and serving sizes to really emphasize the flavor of the coffee. A good place to start is with the Cappuccino Italiano (P135/eight ounces, P150/12 ounces, P165/16 ounces), with a dark chocolaty flavor.
Cafe Barbera is at G/F Uptown Parade, Uptown Bonifacio. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m.
2) Stockwell Cafe + Lounge
For those days when you need a break from busy Tomas Morato, Stockwell Cafe is a sanctuary that's worth a visit. Not only do they have a steady WiFi connection and a good number of cozy couches, they also offer an extensive menu of third wave coffee and espresso-based drinks. Plus, you can have dinner here with their offerings of hefty sandwiches, pasta, and even rice meals. And if you need extra help unwinding, Stockwell also offers wine and cocktails.
Stockwell Cafe + Lounge is at 61 Scout Tobias corner Scout Rallos Street, Tomas Morato, Quezon City. Open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Sunday to Thursday) and 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. (Friday to Saturday).
3) Fundamental Coffee
For no-fuss coffee in a location that'll make you forget you're in the middle of one of Makati's busiest areas, Fundamental Coffee is the place to be. At this coffee shop, it's all about going back to basics—meaning no fancy syrups and whipped cream. And most of the time, simple is what you need after a day of hustle and bustle.
Fundamental Coffee is at G/F Park Terraces, Palm Drive, Ayala Center, Makati City. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
4) Catabolic Cafe
This cozy cafe in the Malingap-Maginhawa area is open till 11 p.m., perfect for those late-night, post-work catch-up sessions with the BFFs. With cool interiors that mix modern and vintage styles, you'll be able to update your Instagram feed, too. 6) Cartel Coffee + Deli
Cartel isn't just a coffee shop; it's also become a neighborhood haunt where you can get produce from homegrown brands like Txanton, Belge & Co., and Holy Carabao. But that doesn't mean you can't get excellent coffee here, especially with beans supplied by Yardstick. If you don't want to get too caffeinated especially late at night, get the Hot Chai Latte (P140), which will soothe your soul in an instant.
Cartel Coffee + Deli is at 119 L.P. Leviste Street, Salcedo Village, Makati City. Open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
7) KANDLE Cafe
With KANDLE Cafe's laid-back ambience, made even homier by the knickknacks scattered all over the space, you'll find it difficult to leave. It helps that they also offer great pasta dishes, salads, and burgers to go with their drinks, all made in-house by chef and co-owner Leslie Ong. Why not end a busy day with a cocktail-inspired dish like the Bloody Mary Cream Pie Pasta (P330)?
KANDLE Cafe is at 113 Mother Ignacia Avenue, South Triangle, Quezon City. Open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. (Monday to Thursday), 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. (Friday to Saturday) and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Sunday).
8) Exchange Alley Coffee House
For third-wave coffee in the South, you donât have to look further than Exchange Alley Coffee House (or EACH). Cool black-and-white interiors with yellow-and-teal details make this cafe stand out, but it's the coffee that'll make you stay until late. They offer classics like an Iced Latte (P150) and the EACH Mocha (P170), but you could also try something less conventional like the Nitro Black (P190), which is brewed in a mini keg. There's delicious grub, too, the Bangers and Mash (P420) or breakfast sausages with mashed potatoes and a burnt onion gravy will cure any hangover.
Exchange Alley Coffee House is at Unit 3, Molito Lifestyle Building 7, Madrigal-Commerce Junction, Alabang, Muntinlupa City. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
