Most of the time, sexual intercourse alone isn't enough for women to reach the big O. But that doesn't mean it's impossible.
A group of researchers from Kinsey Institute, Chapman University, and Indiana University surveyed 52,000 individuals on how often they orgasm. The respondents were aged between 18 and 65, and said they were in an exclusive relationship.
A whopping 95 percent of men stated that they "usually" or "always" orgasm while doing it. However, only 65 percent of women said they did.
Around 80 percent of the women revealed that they are only able to climax with the "golden trio"—even without actual intercourse.
What the hell is the golden trio, you might ask:
1) Genital stimulation
2) Deep kissing
3) Oral sex
"About 30 percent of men actually think that intercourse is the best way for women to have orgasm, and that is sort of a tragic figure because it couldn't be more incorrect," says Elisabeth Lloyd, one of the researchers. "To say that there needs to be some education I think is an understatement."
Her colleagues, however, noted that "women really are tremendously variable in how readily they orgasm and what makes one woman orgasm can be quite different than what makes another woman orgasm."
So, the best way to find out what works for your partner is to communicate.
"Explicit and direct communication with one's partner is key."
