Nobody wants to be boring or generic when it comes to introducing themselves to a new Tinder match. But coming up with a perfect opening line doesn't really have to be a challenge.

Dr. Jess Carbino, Tinder sociologist, revealed in her latest research that the secret to catching the attention of your potential pair is none other than incorporating Graphics Interchange Format or GIFs to your message.

She found out that GIF senders are more likely to receive response than their stationary counterparts. Not only will it increase your chances of getting the conversation going, your exchange is likely to be twice as long as those that communicated GIF-less.

Carbino told entertainment website Mashable that muted clips helps to let the other person know more about your "personality and sense of humor."


"GIFs immediately lighten up the tone of a conversation and are a great way to push past the small talk," she added.

In a separate interview with tech website Engadget, Carbino said the moving pictures aid the user in easing into conversations as a brilliant way to break the ice. "People are very attracted to art and things that are visual."

Another surprising finding, Carbino confirmed, is that GIFs aren't exclusive to millennials. Tinder's users are aged 18 to 61, and GIF usage is universal.

Since the feature was enabled on January, users have sent more than 100 million GIFs.
