For the study, the affair site gathered over 2,000 of its members, and asked what made them sign up. Apparently—and not surprising—sex is the number one reason why they are there, with 61 percent of the users admitting that they use the website to get laid.
Other reasons include exploring new desires (45 percent), looking for affection (44 percent), for friendship (42 percent), and for the feeling of butterflies in their stomach again (30 percent).
Aside from that, the survey also revealed what cheaters enjoy most about having an affair:

It can be seen in the data that, again, sex is the top reason why people continue to cheat, with 76 percent of respondents saying someone outside of their relationship is able to satisfy their sexual needs. But aside from the physical satisfaction, the survey also showed that emotional gratification is also a factor. Turns out, the feeling of being alive and desirable are psychological needs that, unfortunately, are not being met in the respondents current relationship—which leads to cheating.
“The reasons why people cheat are very telling of the types of relationships that people find themselves in,” says Isabella Mise, director of communications for Ashley Madison.
“When sex and intimacy fade, often times monogamy becomes a struggle for our members but they don’t want to leave their partner altogether. Infidelity is an avenue for them to have certain needs that met and stay happy in their primary relationship,” she adds.
This just proves that having a fantastic sex life is not enough to keep the fire in your relationship burning. Don’t forget to satisfy your partner not just physically, but emotionally as well.
