Most people think that landing a first date is the most difficult part of the game. But think about it, scoring that second date is actually more challenging. Getting a woman to agree to another night out is much more difficult since you’ve already made an impression, which might not have been a good one.
Therefore, if you want to convince a woman to see you again, the best thing you could do is ask a lot of questions, according to a Harvard University study.
Many single people are worried about seeming too intrusive on a first date, but being nosy is actually a great way of showing interest. According to the study, this “makes them warm up to you rapidly and boosts the chances of second meeting.”
The researchers came to this conclusion after recording all conversation from three speed-dating sessions, where 110 participants had four minutes to get to know each other.
Upon analyzing the data, the researchers found that men in the study wanted to go on a second date with more than half of the women they met. Meanwhile, women only wanted to go out again with just over a third of the men.
On average, each participant asked ten questions. But researchers noted that those who asked 15 or more questions were more likely to score another date.
“Speed daters who ask more follow-up questions...are more likely to elicit agreement for second dates,” the paper reads. “Despite the persistent and beneficial effects of asking questions, people do not anticipate that it increases interpersonal liking. They may be unsure about what to ask, or worry about being perceived as rude.”
But be careful of probing too deep since not everyone is comfortable about expounding on their personal life.
