At 49 years old, Josh Brolin can still kick your ass! The Thanos and Cable Star is receiving so much praise not just for his terrific back to back performances as Marvel antagonists, but also for his dramatic physical change.
Brolin has been steadily documenting his progress on his Instagram feed, where you can see he takes his training seriously. But as dramatic as his achievement is, it’s something totally doable with the right amount of discipline and hard work. Interested in getting the Brolin Bod? Keep these things in mind as you train.
Fuel your body right
Take it from the man himself as he says in his IG post, “Cable’s coming, growing from the inside. Clean building from a past of donut travel to the present hard case that he is. No sugar, no bread, no pastas. The machine is being built. I’m pissed off.”
Although he doesn’t specifically say it, Brolin sounds like he’s into Paleo—a diet that, according to www.thepaleodiet.com consists mostly of meat, fish, seafood, eggs, and nuts, and not so much grains, legumes, dairy, potatoes, salt, and processed foods.
Mind how you lift
To really get that Cable physique, Brolin employed Drop sets, which is a method of lifting weights where you lift heavy first, and essentially “drop” the weight (lessen) as you go along, according to www.muscleandfitness.com. This is done to quickly increase blood flow to the muscles and promote muscle hypertrophy (basically making you look more buff).
One of the areas Josh Brolin focused on was his shoulders—which is an essential area to get that v-shaped physique necessary for all heroes. Based on his IG, he did a lot of front and lateral raises. He also did a ton of overall heavy lifting, and even some boxing to round up his routine.
Get into the habit
Josh Brolin says his training schedule is to train six days, rest one. But if you don't have as tight a deadline as he does, you can pace yourself a little differently. According to www.superherojacked.com, you can schdeule your workout 3-5 days per week alternating Chest & Triceps, Back & Biceps, and Legs & Shoulder days with light full body workouts. It is important to make sure you approach the training in a systematic and scientific way to avoid injury. So don’t just go crazy with the weights or you might find yourself closer to Professor X than you do to Cable.
Take time to recover
All work and no play makes Cable a really angry dude! Like any good workout routine, a cheat day is not only something to look forward to, but is actually necessary for overall health. Your body needs time to breathe and relax which will prevent it from dangerously shutting down.
