Simply put, bacon makes the world a happier place. The problem, however, is that not all of us know how to make the perfect smoky, crispy bacon strips that we all deserve...UNTIL NOW.
Thankfully, the good guys of America's Test Kitchen thought of sharing the secret on how to cook bacon to crispy perfection on their YouTube channel, and the clip has now garnered more than 10,960,000 views as of this writing.
Teaching the world how to cook bacon right is part of their advocacy of making us all fat. Okay, we made that last part up, but we're not kidding about all the clip's awesome bacon-ness.
First, let's take a look at the difference between crisp and tender bacon (right) and dry and crumbly bacon strips (left).
Place the bacon in a pan and pour just enough water to cover it over high heat. The additional water keeps the initial cooking temperature low, making the meat retain moisture and tenderness.
Once the water starts to boil, lower the heat to medium.
Once all the water has simmered away, turn the heat to medium low.
Continue cooking the bacon in low heat until it's golden brown.
And there you have it! Well-cooked, crispy-brown wonders! Now we're hungry!
