You’re cruising along steadily, mentally preparing yourself for the day ahead, as a nice, upbeat pop song plays in the background. Seems like you’re going to have a most terrific day. And then, things that happen on the road happen. Traffic seems to be heavier, for some reason—an accident up ahead, most likely.

Some careless motorcycle nearly hits your side mirror in its attempt to cheat traffic. Another driver cuts you off recklessly. The honking gets louder. And louder. You reach your breaking point. You honk back, hard and long, as you curse loudly inside the car. At this point, your morning grace has all but evaporated, replaced entirely by the sickness that we all know as road rage.

You swear you’re this close to killing someone. And we believe just as much. Violence amongst road users and drivers is as real as it gets, people.

Enter Senate Bill 2923 or An Act Defining Road Rage and Prescribing Penalties Therefore. As reported by, the bill was filed by Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and aims to curb the amount of violent incidents relating to road rage, with penalties as heavy as losing one’s license, and lifetime prohibition and disqualification from future issuance of driver's licenses.

Said the Senator: "Senseless violence need not erupt from the road. Road users always begin their respective journeys incognito and as strangers. It is unfortunate if these strangers on the road end up hurting or even killing, each other over a dispute that arise out of spontaneity on a communal road." An “unnecessary and reprehensible evil,” remarked Marcos, referring to road rage.
