We Filipinos usually associate the word ‘fiesta’ with an overload of food, and garish little banderitas.[firstpara] Ford’s new compact vehicle though, the 2010 Fiesta, has absolutely nothing to do with lechon, and only a little to do with banderitas in that they both could be described as smallish.
As its name suggests, the Fiesta has a very fun vibe about it, rascal even. If it were a character in Disney’s Cars, it would be an overeager, energetic lad with a taste for adventure, and one who’d be inclined to say something encouraging to a sulking protagonist. But we digress. Though compact, the Fiesta scores big points on design.
Both the 4-door sedan and the 5-door hatchback models appear sleek and sporty, with its dynamic, sculpted design cues.
On the front, the elongated headlamps along with Ford’s signature grille punctuate the car’s sporty looks. Making the car look more masculine are the rear quarter panels that wrap tightly over the wheels.
On the hatchback model, a low roofline, a spoiler, and bold-looking tail lamps highlight the rear portion. Inside, the car also features sculpted surfaces and contrasting colors to complete the car’s sporty attitude.
Ford will be offering three Fiesta models: Style, Trend and Sport. Style is available in 1.4L 4-door manual transmission; Trend is available in both a 1.4L and a 1.6L engine in both 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback; and Sport is available in a 1.6L 5-door hatch back body with 6-speed Powershift auto.
The 6-speed Powershift auto transmission, which combines the responsiveness and fuel economy of a manual with the convenience of an automatic, is said to be typically found only in larger, more expensive vehicles. But here, Ford is offering to pair it with the 1.6L engine models.
The standard 16-Valve 1.4-litre Duratec I4 engine produces 95 horsepower at 5750rpm while the larger 1.6-litre engine boasts 121 horsepower at 6000rpm. Though these engines might not sound monstrous, these are still very efficient and powerful engines especially for a car as light as the Ford Fiesta.
It’s more than enough power to breeze through the city, and with the car’s maneuverability and size, you’d be an expert in traffic swerving in no time, and parallel parking along narrow streets. The Fiesta is simply a great city car.
The Ford Fiesta also boasts of having best-in-class occupant safety. All models enjoy an Anti-Lock Braking system with Electronic Brake Distribution, while 1.6L models feature Electronic Stability Program, which automatically applies braking force to an individual that may be losing grip.
The Fiesta also has a very rigid body structure that not only adds to the safety, but also improves cruising noise levels and overall comfort. Exterior noise is kept from coming in through the use of an exclusive, specially- laminated windshield. A hood blanket, and double door seals.
