The next wave of post-apocalyptic goodness comes our way as the fourth season of the zombie-infested series The Walking Dead premieres in the U.S.—with a Philippine premiere hopefully not too far off.
The Walking Dead, for those who are only tuning in just now, follows former deputy sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) as he leads a ragtag band of survivors away from the creatures formerly known as humans. In the fourth season, they seem to have found just this freedom from the flesh-eaters in the form of a prison—of all places. Just how long the prison will last against internal strife and the external zombie threat remains to be seen. (It's a zombie show, so expect trouble.)
Known for its compelling characters that range from grizzled, bow-wielding zombie killers to unscrupulous figures trying to become a leader in this new world order, the series is packed with enough drama that you sometimes forget all about those dreaded "walkers." One "character" though that we'll never forget and one that played a huge part in the survival of the main cast was the 2011 Hyundai Tucson—the primary car used during the initial escape scenes in the series' first few episodes. Since then, it has become one of the group's most frequently used vehicles.
And since then, it has gone under zombie-proofing courtesy of the official Hyundai distributor in the country, Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) and local pimp-my-ride masters, Atoy Customs. The two teamed up to produce a real-life zombie survival car to coincide with the show's fourth season. Below is the end product:
Wicked transformation, yes? It's also currently on tour with dates and locations posted below. Sadly, it's currently not for sale. You can however design your own zombie car here at the Walking Dead Chop Shop website.
Now, if we were zombies, and saw this badboy barreling down a dark avenue, what would be the first thing to come to mind?
a) I'm so eating the people inside that car.
b) I'm so eating the people inside that car.
c) All of the above.
Obviously, zombies don't really think, so let's tweak the question a bit. What if we were THINKING zombies, and saw this badboy barreling down a dark avenue, what would be the first thing we'll do so that we can eat the people inside that car? On the next page is our strategic step-by-step zombie plan to opening up that beast.
