Ever since introducing the Mazda 3, Mazda has had a single-minded focus on producing cars that look phenomenal and are certainly fresh and invigorating to drive. [firstpara] Case in point: the Mazda 6, a luxury sedan that we believe, has the ability to coax out the hormonal teenager in any self-made executive.
Not surprisingly, the all-new Mazda CX-7 proves to be a rush to drive, as well. Mazda calls the CX-7 the “SUV with the soul of a sports car.” We aren’t usually taken with what the manufacturers have to say about their own products, but looking at this one, we have to say that Mazda really nailed it.
Discarding the typical buff and heavy looks of most SUVs, the CX-7 is sleek, sexy even, possibly drawing inspiration from the much more expensive Porsche Cayenne. Looking at it from the front, its stylish headlights and fascia give the ride an immediate sense of aggression.
The beefy 17” aluminum multi-spoke wheels complement the dynamic side profile of the car, completing the car’s sporty SUV philosophy. The car’s outstanding design extends to the interior, with a dashboard that looks to be the most spirited and refined in its class, seats that provide outstanding comfort, and a spacious cabin.
Driving the CX-7 feels oddly unique. You get in the car, expecting that you’d be driving a cumbersome SUV. But as soon as you start it, put it through its paces, and take your first turn, you’d discover that it’s really not your average SUV. Equipped with an Engine Speed Sensing variable assist rack and pinion steering system, swerving in and out of traffic is incredibly easy and smooth—as though you’were driving a Miata.
But while the Miata might complain when it comes to conquering uphill roads, the CX-7 takes care of that easily. Its MZR 2.5 liter engine, producing a maximum torque of 205 Nm and a maximum output of 161hp, is powerful enough for your out-of-town treks. The ride is comfortable too thanks to an all-independent suspension composed of MacPherson strut at the front and multilink at the rear with stabilizer bars. The Mazda CX-7 retails for 1,495,000 Pesos.
