A self-driving car developed by Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ford Motor Co.’s partner in China has reportedly finished a 1,200 mile journey across the country.
According to Bloomberg, the vehicle left the company’s headquarters in Chongqing on April 12 and reached Beijing after six days on April 18. The car was able to carry out automatic lane cruising meaning it could speed up and slow down with other cars.
It also managed lane-keeping and -changing on varying roads. Assisted driving was needed however during traffic congestion.
The most impressive feat noted was that the vehicle was able to change speed based on road sign recognition and through voice commands.
The test is part of the company’s project to produce highly automated vehicles in four years’ time.
