The Subaru Forester belongs to the class of vehicles that straddle several classifications and are called “crossovers.” It is part SUV, part sports car, part station wagon, but most importantly, it is all Subaru. That means it has their famous Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and it has a boxer engine under the hood (choose the hood with a scoop, trust us).
A boxer engine doesn’t mean that the power plant is endorsed by Manny Pacquiao, at least not yet. It means that the cylinders are arranged horizontally, and their movement results in the pistons moving back and forth in opposite directions, as if they were boxing, thus the name. What this all means is the engine has good balance and a low center of gravity. Subaru and Porsche are only among the few carmakers that currently use this engine design.
The all-wheel drive system ensures the car is planted on the road all the time. While this guarantees big grins taking the corners at high speeds, tell your wife this makes the car safer during the rainy season when roads are wet; wouldn’t want anything to happen to the little ones, right? ABS and front, side and curtain airbags round out the safety features.
