Ever dreamt of yourself with a bandana on your head, leather vests showing off your tattoo-covered arms, big manly boots protecting the feet, and hands gripping tightly on the handles of a bonafide crotch rocket?
With the official launch of the first Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership in the country, that dream is closer to reality—if you have the dough to throw around, at least.
Celebrating its 110th anniversary, the legendary American motorcycle brand is an iconic force we associate deeply with the big, bad bikers of the U.S.A. While it’s definitely not just for budding Hell’s Angels everywhere, the launch held last March 2 held a rebellious tone nonetheless.
”Let Freedom Roar” was that day’s slogan at the ribbon-cutting ceremony held in the landmark store along EDSA in Quezon City. In keeping with the brand’s masculine bravado, there were of course no ribbons and scissors in sight that day—only steel chains and bolt-cutters, and 80 riders who were giddy to show off their bikes’ mean heritage.
Those 80 riders, a portion of the 800 to 1000 other Harley-owning individuals in the country, rode from the dealership to Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. Upon arriving at the McKinley Parkway, the latest Harley-Davidson motorcycles were revealed in an event not lacking in spirit and steel.
“Nothing beats the kind of freedom riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle gives you,” says Felix R. Ang, President of American Motorcycles, Inc., the official distributor of Harley-Davidson in the country. “Harley-Davidson of Manila, as we are officially called, caters to the thousands of bikers and enthusiasts that have always dreamed of owning a bike that can give you serious power. Everyone knows no other bike roars the way a Harley can.”
We can imagine the Harley’s menacing vroom flattening lesser bikes now.
