Y'all know we're good buddies with young local racing phenom Marlon Stockinger, we did race with him after all, as you can see in this FHM TV clip.

That's why we made sure to drop-by during the Manila Speed Show last Saturday, May 4, to say hello to our good friend. Here's Marlon giving us a quick greeting:

Too quick? Here's Marlon again:

The Lotus Formula 1 Team was in SM Mall of Asia that weekend to support Stockinger, their driver in the World Series by Renault. As expected, a lot of motorsports fans—and swooning girls—attended the two-day event which actually started quite early at the Km. 0 road marker along Roxas Boulevard, just a stone’s throw away from the Rizal Monument.

To say that the event was historic is an understatement. Not only is Marlon the first Filipino to drive an F1 car, it’s also the first time an actual F1 car has taken to the streets of Manila with the full support of an F1 team.

After Marlon auspiciously opened the two-day event by driving a few ceremonial laps from the Km. 0 road marker to the Quirino Grandstand and back, the action moved to SM Mall of Asia, with its concert ground becoming the staging area of the festivities.

Dubbed “The Manila Speed Show,” the event celebrated the local automobile and motorsport scene. A car show was held in one section of the area, complete with participants and aftermarket exhibitors...

…while various motorsport activities, like karting and drifting exhibitions, were held on the streets around the venue.

NEXT: The highlight of the event! The Lotus F1 car, of course!
