It's turning out to be a damn good year for personal transportation. First, we saw Lexus' new ride, a sweet and legit hoverboard hovering straight out of our sci-fi fantasies. Now we've just seen yet another product that provides a nifty way to travel, and it fits right inside your backpack.

Lo and behold, the WalkCar:

Created by Japanese engineer Kuniako Saito and his team at Cocoa Motors, the WalkCar is a portable personal transporter powered by a lithium battery. It's roughly the size of a laptop and weighs just around three kilos which means you can carry it around with no issues.

However, once you set it on the floor and stand on it, the roles are switched. It will carry you around with a max speed of 10kph, and it has enough muscle to do so even if you weigh up to 265 lbsgood enough to carry most NBA players from point A to point B. It can run for 7.4 miles on a single charge and needs just three hours to juice up.

But the best part? It's super duper easy to operate and requires almost zero skills to ride! Like we've said, all you have to do is stand on it and it will automatically start running. Shifting your weight steers the wonder device and stepping off deactivates it. Nice!

Want one? We know you do. According to our man Saito, the WalkCar will be up for reservation on Kickstarter later this year for 100,000 Japanese Yen (around P36,800).

But just in case you're still unconvinced of its potential, check out the video below of it in action.
