When we think of Bruce Willis, we usually think of exploding buildings, handgun shoot-outs, and a whole lot of bloodied faces. [firstpara]
The man’s an action star, and save for a few novel appearances in movies where he isn’t a cop, or a hitman, i.e. Breakfast of Champions, The Kid, the grizzled actor is practically Chuck Norris minus the roundhouse kicks.

On October 15, Friday, we will once again see Bruce Willis as his film, Red, opens in theatres everywhere.

Red, which stands for “Retired, Extremely Dangerous,” is an adaptation of a cult hit, 3-issue comic book series by DC Comics published in 2003 and 2004 of the same name.

In the film, Bruce reprises the all-too-familiar role of a badass secret agent as one Frank Moses, albeit with one teeny-tiny difference: he’s a CIA agent who has just retired, and is thusly experiencing the withdrawal effects of not being able to break other people’s necks and do whatever badass stuff that CIA agents do.

Just when he starts to adjust to his newly-domesticated life though, an assassin shows up to kill him, and so he is forced to re-assemble his former team to survive.

Before Bruce played any roles that deal with retirement however, as you may know, he was as capable and exciting as any action star in Hollywood history. Here now’s a look back at some of his most memorable roles.

Next: Pulp Fiction and 12 Monkeys
