The first official trailer of Batman: The Killing Joke was released on Tuesday.

The film is an adaption of the 1998 classic one-shot graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Brian Bolland.

Highly regarded as one of the best Batman stories ever made, it provides an origin story for the Dark Knight’s archenemy, the Joker, and how the clown prince of crime mentally and psychologically broke Gotham police commissioner Jim Gordon.

It also tackles the relationship between Batman and Joker and their similarities to each other despite being on different sides. The film gives homage to the graphic novel by taking lines directly from it, such as the Joker classic, “All it takes is one bad day.”

The direct-to-video film was first officially announced on the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con, where long-time Batman animator and producer Bruce Timm stated that it was in development. According to Forces of Geek, Timm announced on Saturday at the Wizard World Comic Con New Orleans that the film will be premiering at this year's SDCC at July.

The movie will also reunite the voice-acting duo of Mark Hamill as Joker and Kevin Conroy as Batman. The two started working together in 1992 during the iconic Batman: The Animated Series and since then they have voiced the characters in various media.
