Back in June, Marvel released the teaser trailer for the upcoming Black Panther standalone film, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2018.

Refresh your memory:

Fast-forward to four months later, and Marvel has finally given us the first official Black Panther trailer, which is nothing short of epic.

The two-minute clip features Chadwick Boseman, who plays the titular superhero as he assumes the throne as King T'Challa of Wakanda following the death of his father, who died during the events of Captain America: Civil War.

Watch:

So far, the trailer gives us a fair idea of how Black Panther will face new challenges as a hero while balancing his legacy as a legend and duties to Wakanda as its king. Here’s a breakdown of the important stuff we spotted:

Wakanda is lit

The opening sequence starts with a highly advanced spacecraft gliding over a mountainous area with waterfalls running down its ridges. “I have seen Gods fly, I’ve seen men build weapons that I can’t even imagine. I’ve seen aliens drop from the sky. But I have never seen anything like this. How much more are you hiding?” Everette Ross (Martin Freeman) asks T’Challa.

As the spacecraft breaks through multiple layers of barriers that disguise the far-flung country as an underdeveloped jungle territory, fans are finally given a glimpse of how spectacular Wakanda really is—a futuristic city that boasts of technology miles ahead of the rest of the world.

Dora Milaje

The trailer also treats us with glimpses of the Dora Milaje, Wakanda’s elite all-female King’s guard who wield Vibranium weapons and armor, and are tasked to protect their king at all costs. Aside from their security duties, they were originally meant as potential queens for an unmarried Wakandan King.

Seeing double

At the 50-second mark, T’Challa is shown together with not one but two Black Panther suits. Both suits are identical with their familiar all black body-hugging stealth design with silver trimmings. The suit to the right appears to be what T’Challa wore during Civil War while the other is a new version which most likely has upgrades to improve the Black Panther’s combat abilities.

Mighty morphin’ abilities

Black Panther’s suit has tons of features, but what makes it special is the fact that it’s made of Vibranium—the same metal Captain America’s shield is made from—which basically means whoever wears it is immune to almost all kinds of attacks. Now, it seems like a new morphing feature allows its user to summon the suit at will.

Panther vs. Panther

Near the end, we see Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) suit up with his own version of the Black Panther that seems to also be equipped with the new morphing feature. With the suit, he’s more than capable of giving T’Challa just a scratch as the plot looks set to pit the Black Panther against an evil version of himself.
